TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan and the United States will announce closer cooperation in high-tech areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) in a joint statement when Prime Minister Fumio Kishida meets President Joe Biden next month, the Asahi newspaper reported on Saturday Shimbun.
Biden is set to host Kishida on an official visit to the United States on April 10.
Calling the ties between the two allies a “global partnership,” the joint statement will promote closer cooperation in artificial intelligence and semiconductors, Asahi said, without citing her sources.
As part of the agreement, Japan and the US will likely create a framework for artificial intelligence research and development, working with Nvidia (NASDAQ:), Arm and Amazon (NASDAQ:), among others, the newspaper reported.
In recent months, the United States has moved aggressively to cut off the supply of advanced artificial intelligence chips to China, seeking to prevent Beijing from obtaining advanced American technology that could bolster its military.
