(Reuters) – Toyota is recalling 145,254 vehicles in the United States for side curtain airbags that may not deploy properly, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Wednesday.
In the event of an accident, the side curtain airbag creates a barrier that helps prevent the vehicle’s occupant from being ejected.
However, NHTSA said that in some Toyota (NYSE:) The driver’s side curtain airbag may not deploy properly and may deploy partially outside of the open window.
The recall affects certain 2024 SUVs and hybrids such as the Toyota Grand Highlander, Grand Highlander Hybrid, Lexus TX350, TX500 Hybrid and TX550 Hybrid+.
According to NHTSA, a solution to this problem is under development.
