(Reuters) – Elon Musk’s Tesla (NASDAQ:) said on Friday it cut prices for Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscriptions in the U.S. and Canada as it seeks to boost adoption amid weaker demand and price competition.
The subscription will cost $99 per month in the U.S. and C$99 ($71.88) in Canada, the electric vehicle maker said in a post on X.
Musk has long touted FSD technology as a potential cash cow for the company, but has failed to deliver on his promise of fully autonomous driving amid tight regulatory and legal scrutiny over Tesla’s safety and marketing.
The software, which Tesla says does not make cars autonomous and requires active control by the driver, was previously offered as a $199-a-month subscription.
Last month, Tesla said it would conduct a month-long trial of its driver-assist technology to existing and new customers in the United States.
