(Reuters) – OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman told some shareholders the company is considering changing its management structure to a for-profit business that is not controlled by the board of nonprofit OpenAI, The Information reported on Friday.
Altman said one scenario the board is considering is creating a for-profit benefit corporation, which is being used by competitors such as Anthropic and xAI, the report said, citing a person who heard the comments.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
