(Reuters) – William Donaldson, the former chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and co-founder of Wall Street investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, has died, the Yale University School of Management said on Friday.
Donaldson, who was also the founding dean of the Yale School of Management, died Wednesday, according to the university.
Donaldson, born in 1931, was chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2003 to 2005. In 1959, he co-founded Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.
He was appointed to his position at the SEC by President George W. Bush and was a member of President Barack Obama’s original Economic Recovery Advisory Council.
Donaldson is survived by his wife Jane, children Kim, Matt and Adam, and three grandchildren.
