On LuckThe annual ranking of the largest U.S. companies by revenue added 14 new faces or companies to the list for the first time this year.
Technology companies lead the group of newcomers to the Fortune 500, with five companies representing the sector. Together with other newcomers, which include financial, healthcare and telecommunications corporations, their combined revenue was $144 billion.
The diverse group making its debut includes DoorDash as a leading technology company, as well as IntuitiveSurgical (maker of the DaVinci5 surgical robot) and beverage company Monster Energy. The founding years of these companies span three centuries. On the old end are New York Community Bancorp (NYCB) and First Citizens BancShares, founded in 1859 and 1898, respectively. DoorDash, the youngest of them, was founded in 2013.
Similar to the list of 2023 newcomers, when the Silicon Valley bank debuted after the March crash, entered into battle with NYCB appears on the list for the first time this year with reported 2023 revenue of $8.2 billion.
The biggest jump among newcomers belongs to EchoStar. Although the satellite and internet service provider was not ranked on the Fortune 1000 last year, it ranks No. 242 on the 2024 Fortune 500 list. EchoStar is also the newcomer with the largest revenue increase, reaching $17 billion.
