(Reuters) – Boeing (NYSE:) said on Thursday the aircraft maker has updated its manufacturing and quality training program for new employees after pausing it in late February.
New employees will now undergo 10 to 14 weeks of basic training before moving into production, an average of one to two weeks more per employee than before.
At its training center in Renton, Boeing installed a section of the 737 fuselage so employees could practice skills such as installing electrical wiring and identifying potential defects.
Following the Jan. 5 incident at Alaska Airlines, in which a door panel on a 737 MAX 9 jet came off mid-flight, the company is reviewing manufacturing practices as it grapples with investigations and falling production of its best-selling plane.
