Apple (NASDAQ:) is reportedly close to an agreement with OpenAI to integrate the startup’s artificial intelligence technology into the iPhone, Bloomberg News reports.
The move is part of Apple’s broader push to enhance its devices with artificial intelligence capabilities.
OpenAI technology, including ChatGPT chatbot functionality, is expected to be included in iOS 18, the upcoming iPhone operating system.
While the terms of the partnership are being finalized, Apple is expected to unveil a number of new AI features at its highly anticipated annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WDC) in June.
The tech giant is aiming to make a significant impact in the artificial intelligence sector and plans to leverage some of its new artificial intelligence capabilities through data centers powered by custom Apple processors.
The development follows an announcement last year from Apple CEO Tim Cook, who acknowledged OpenAI’s use of ChatGPT and promised new AI features would be rolled out in a “very thoughtful manner.”
In addition to OpenAI, Apple is in talks with Google (NASDAQ:) regarding the potential use of Google’s Gemini chatbot. While those talks have not yet resulted in a formal agreement, they are ongoing, the report said.
