MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexican carrier Aeromexico is temporarily suspending flights from Mexico City to the Ecuadorian capital Quito, the airline said on Monday.
The route will be suspended from July 1 to December 18, Aeromexico confirmed.
Travel between Mexico and Ecuador has become more difficult due to the dramatic April arrest of former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas, who was living at the Mexican embassy in Quito.
Mexico has accused Ecuador of violating international law by breaking into its embassy, while Ecuador accuses the North American country of illegally harboring Glas, who has been twice convicted of corruption and faces new charges.
Mexico and Ecuador severed diplomatic relations over the incident, and both countries have since stopped processing visas, passports and other documents in the other country.
Routine consular procedures must now be carried out in neighboring countries.
