(Reuters) – Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:) has proposed limiting the use of certain data from all advertisers on its Facebook Marketplace platform as part of amendments to proposals adopted by the Competition Authority (CMA) in November, the regulator said on Friday.
In November, the CMA accepted commitments from Meta that would prevent the social media giant from “exploiting” the data of its advertising clients.
Those proposals included allowing competitors who advertise on their platforms to opt out of having their data used to improve Facebook Marketplace.
The UK competition watchdog has accepted the proposed changes on a provisional basis and is inviting interested third parties to provide their views on the matter. Consultations close on June 14.
Other changes, if any, to Meta’s previously accepted proposals are not disclosed.
Amazon.com (NASDAQ:) also committed in November to not use market data from competing sellers to ensure a level playing field for third-party sellers.
